Eugene RC Aeronauts

My father-in-law will be in town on March 22, and stay for a couple of weeks, and is interested in chatting about American flying before he buys a plane to use when visiting us (from Scotland). Is there anyone who might be willing to meet up during that time?

I really haven't dealt with model RC insurance, so I don't know if your insurance covers incidental pilots (like auto insurance covers an incidental driver) or if he should get some sort of insurance if he will be flying your plane. Please inform me on this one, so I can make sure everything is set up when he arrives.

To answer at least part of your question.. As long as he is a member of the AMA ( http://www.modelaircraft.org/ ) and holds a current AMA card he may fly at our club field as a guest a few times.
We have a few entry level instructors to help him get started, if he has not flown before. I do not recall you mentioning if he has ever flown RC before.
We also have a couple trainer planes that we keep in working order just for these kind of situations. To give a person a chance to try it out before actually purchasing all sorts of equipment and such.

We do have a club meeting this Tuesday, Feb 26th. The details are on the main website. If you were to make it, we could have a better chance of setting something up for you with one of our instructors.

Anythingy, I read back a bit when you originally posted this on RCGroups, and you mentioned he has been flying or does fly, just not in the States. I would have to almost assume he does have an AMA membership. You should confirm that first. If he is in fact already a member, there is nothing you need to setup for him other than finding a club member that may be willing to let him fly their airplane. Otherwise, we do have a club trainer that could be used.

Either way, the club would be more than willing to help you make this happen

I'm sure I have a plane he could fly. But I am sure that he has been flying mode 1 transmitters. Do any of our members out there have a 2.4 mode 1 transmitter or one that can switch to mode 1.

When I ask him about mode, it sounds like he's also Mode 2. "left throttle rudder, right for ailerons and elevator"

Actually, we are having this nights meeting at Roaring Rapids Pizza in Glenwood, so you may come and go as you please. Its a public place.

If you could be there maybe 10 minutes early to let us know you are there, Id be willing to bet Mickey (club president) can let you have a chance to let the club know your situation at some point early in the meeting. In case you cant stay for the entire meeting.
