I have a question regarding digital servos. I get a slight hum from two of the servos I am using in my corsair. The servo is not chattering or twitching, just a slight hum that can come and go. Is this normal? I fear it is draining the battery. The linkages are not binding, I even went to far as to disconnect them frm the servo, and it still "hums"

Hi Bill,
Digital servo's will almost always have a kinda high pitch hum to them. The frequency of the pitch varies on different kinds of digital servo's too, but generally they are all high pitch humming sound. Its perfectly normal. You can get them to stop humming sometimes when there is absolutely no force on the output arms.. but they almost naturally hum even then.

As to draining voltage.. of course they are drawing some as they hum. I couldnt say how much without knowing how many servo's you are running and battery you are using to power them.. but they wont just drain your battery dry in a matter of minutes, as long as they are not working hard trying to stay at neutral, like with a binding linkage or too tight of rudder cables, etc.

Hope that helps, just make sure you check your batteries before and/or after each flight for awhile until you get to really know your system

Thanks JR, this is what I thought, but always best to make sure. Only one servo seems to do it, so i guess I am fortunate in that regard.
By the way, great improvement to the site. I've thought for some time now that with all of the experience we have in the club, to not have a forum to exchange information was almost a crime. I hope usage goes up and this becomes a robust forum.

I agree, we have gone far long enough without a solid forum for our club. Now if only more folks will start posting around here.. Id like to start seeing some other names from posted topics other than mine
